Koluchovas (1972) study of The Czech Twins (Compare to Genie)

The Czech twins similarly suffered privation like Genie; they were locked in a room and beaten.

HOWEVER

Genie didn’t form an attachment in the Critical period and the Czech twins may have formed an attachment with the auntie, the carers at the institution or simply just with themselves in the critical period. This is possibly why they recovered.

ALTHOUGH

It is debated that the reason why they recovered may be that the Czech twins only suffered deprivation and not privation.

·        Genie didn’t go to school or she didn’t gain constant exceptional attention from a single caregiver- UNLIKE the Czech twins

·        The Czech twins fully recovered privation by the age of 11 when their speech became normal and at 15 their IQ was normal for their age. The twins were revisited when they were older to confirm this- the twins were both happily married and had good stable relationships.
UNLIKE Genie who eventually relapsed, erasing most/all of her learning development and still remains institutionalised
